The Project – Refugees for the second time

Refugees for the second time:
Ukrainians in Israel

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 nearly 3.7 million people became internally displaced within the country (as of January 2024), and more than 6.3 million refugees from Ukraine have been recorded globally (as of January 2024) according to the UN.
Above 4.2 million of them stay now all across Europe (based on Eurostat data from May 2024). More than 950,000 in Poland, 62,000 in Finland, 40,000 in Sweden, and nearly 34,000 in Estonia.
In the first three weeks of the war in Ukraine Poland accepted more than 2 million Ukrainians forced to flee their country after the Russian aggression, becoming the biggest help hub for Ukrainian people.
In Israel, there are approximately 14,000 Ukrainian refugees (as of August 2023) scattered all around Israel.
Since the horrendous October 7th attack the Ukrainian refugees living in Israel have encountered a second war. As all Israelis, they suffered countless rocket attacks and some of them have been evacuated from the south and north of Israel, and have become refugees for the second time.
In ‘Refugees for the second time’ we tell the human stories of the Ukrainian refugees who have been affected by two wars.
I believe highlighting these human stories would bring a better understanding and a greater emotional connection between Israeli society and the Ukrainian refugees living in Israel.
